The way this work came about was somewhat spontaneous. I started with a physical collage of magazine cutouts, I thought about how people spend a lot of time alone, but communicating through social media or on their phones. At the same time, people seem to be increasingly isolated even when they are together. In this image, two female figures are portrayed in this artwork. While they occupy the same space, they don’t appear to be looking at each other. One is looking at a phone and the other has her eyes closed. A series of metaphorical openings serve as reflective surfaces as well as conduits for communication and passage. Conversely, both figures appear disconnected by an almost intractable space which is cluttered with a sea of clothes. Although neither figure appears to be connecting, they appear to be linked in another way, as indicated by the pink hair color, the dress, and the fingerprint. The primary color scheme simplifies the composition, allowing the viewer to focus on the symbolism embedded throughout the piece.
